Dear Curl Friend,

My quest for healthy curly hair and the struggles I faced with my own hair damage and loss inspired me to create Luxe Locks Curls. I was also driven by the negative comments from others about my natural hair being “too puffy”, “wild”, or “thick”. Comments that “my hair looked better straight,” were terrible for my self-esteem and made me feel as though my natural curly hair was unacceptable and needed to be changed. I ended up getting a relaxer.

Hair relaxers straighten hair by penetrating the cuticle and the cortex layers of the hair shaft to loosen the natural curl pattern. This process leaves the hair weak, brittle and prone to breakage. It can even burn your skin, cause permanent damage to the scalp, and lead to hair loss.

After getting a relaxer, my curl pattern was completely ruined and my hair was left thin and extremely dry. I had to start all over, nourishing my curls back to health while I learned to love and accept my natural crown. 

I set out to find answers. 

Throughout my own hair journey, I not only found that natural ingredients like oils, butters and aloe vera worked best to grow healthy curly hair long and strong, but that toxic chemicals in hair products, mainly marketed toward Black people, were linked to Cancer and Infertility. This is unacceptable!!!

I know there are millions of people that have faced or are currently facing the same situations. I decided to sell my “science in a bottle” creations and help others discover their own healthy curly hair and the power of natural ingredients.
